Wood Lane

Liverpool City Council appointed Huyton Asphalt to complete essential maintenance and improvement works to Wood Lane and Caldway Drive as part of the Better Roads Highways Improvement Programme.

Wood Lane serves as the primary route, in and out of the City, to nearly 500 homes on the Woodlands Estate and the wider 8000+ residents of Netherley. The surrounding area comprises a high number of cul-de-sacs with the main route in and out of the residential estates via Wood Lane. Any road closures implemented would have had a significant impact on the local community.

The use of public transport in the area is high, with a particularly large dependence on the bus network. Therefore, disruption to the bus route was a huge issue for the residents and local authority and a key consideration during the phasing and methodology of the project.

Following the civil engineering improvements made by HA Civils, our innovative low-carbon recycled material, HALO, was laid for the surfacing element of the works.

This enabled a reduced curing time, facilitating quicker road openings, and demonstrating our commitment to the environment and innovation. HALO is warm mix asphalt technology providing an environmentally-sustainable asphalt with a reduced carbon footprint.

We adapted our processes in order to continue works during the Covid-19 pandemic and the project was completed in June 2020.
