Our work

The project

The M6 Sink Moss to Guidepost scheme covers 3km on the Northbound and Southbound section of M6 (J20). Huyton Asphalt was appointed as part of the ‘Do something’ scheme that addresses underlying defects to repair and resurface the carriageway.

As Principal Contractor on this project, Huyton Asphalt managed each aspect of the scheme overseeing 15,561 operational hours on site with zero injuries and accidents. An absolute commitment to exemplary Health and Safety is part of the DNA of our business and we’re proud to uphold exceptional standards on all projects regardless of scale and complexity.

The challenge

Due to the location of the works, the ability to secure roadspace was a significant challenge. The high-profile nature of schemes running simultaneously on M62 – Smart Motorway, J19 – SRM, M56 – Remedial works and M&H, Huyton Asphalt worked in close collaboration with contractors and Highways England in order to ensure all projects were coordinated. Remaining agile with transparent and consistent communication ensured that closures were kept to a minimum which ultimately reduced disruption to road users.

“The junction looks well and feedback has been positive. Thanks to everyone who took part in completing this project with no fuss, despite having some appalling weather to contend with”

The  solution

To maximise productivity during the restricted timescales, we used HALO, Huyton Asphalt’s sustainable alternative to conventional asphalts.

With HALO low temperature base and binder, cooling times are significantly reduced which meant the impact on traffic was minimised and short working windows maximised. HALO contains recycled materials revolutionising the surfacing industry by creating a low carbon product that offers exceptional performance compared to conventional asphalts.

We are proud to work with Highways England to leave a tangible environmental impact with a innovative product that uses reclaimed asphalt pavements to drive sustainability and reduces carbon through use of technology.

We worked with our sister company, HA Civils to complete drainage and manhole reinstatement.
